Open Call: Artist Commission

Craigmillar Now x Glasgow School of Art

Craigmillar Now in partnership with Glasgow School of Art are seeking to commission a Scotland-based Black or Person of Colour contemporary photographer / artist / community education worker or curator to engage with the Sandra George Archive at Craigmillar Now and develop an event for Glasgow International (Friday 7th – Sunday 23rd June 2024) that shares their response to her work.

A solo exhibition of Sandra George’s work will be presented by The Glasgow School of Art Exhibitions in partnership with Craigmillar Now, as part of Glasgow International 2024 at 5 Florence Street, Glasgow.

It is open as to the form the event commission takes – it could range from an artist talk with images to more speculative forms of presentation, including creative writing, workshops, performance or audio. The event could respond to the exhibition itself at 5 Florence Street.

Fee: £2352 (incl. VAT) based on 7 days at £336 per day, travel costs: up to £100 and production costs: up to £500

Open Call: Artist Filmmaker

Craigmillar Now is seeking to commission an Edinburgh-based artist filmmaker to support us to document a series of workshops with young people in the Greater Craigmillar area connected to the soon-to-be-released Greater Craigmillar Arts Trail.

About The Greater Craigmillar Arts Trail:

Throughout 2023, Craigmillar Now has been working with local communities and volunteers to develop the Greater Craigmillar Art Map. The Art Map highlights 9 significant creative public landmarks both surviving and removed around the Greater Craigmillar area, and comprises a walking map designed by Out of the Blueprint, an audio trail of oral histories from local people talking about their connection with each stop, and a digital site with archival images and media illustrating the stops further.

Our supporting workshop programme will involve local young people leading tours around the area and engaging with landmarks on the Greater Craigmillar Art Map route. The artist filmmaker will document these activities and walks around the local area. Workshops will take place between April - July.

To apply provide:

A weblink to your work or up to 5 images of previous workshops or pieces of media or art that you have delivered

A short CV

We will also accept equivalent descriptions recorded as audio or video files. If you have any particular access needs that would make the process of submission easier, please email us at: info@craigmillarnow.com

Fee based on 12 half-days @ £135.00 = £1620. Travel costs up to £50.

Deadline: 11 March 2024, 5pm
